FAQs

  • A member of our research team will reach out to you via email in the next 2-3 days.

  • Yes. If you complete the full study, you will receive a minimum compensation of $150 and a maximum of $184.

  • This study is being done to compare the effectiveness of three different skills trainings to cope with distress, including (1) attention skills training, (2) attention and reflective thought skills training, and (3) health and wellness skills training. Each of these programs are 6 weeks, self-directed, online, and involve weekly coaching support.

If you are eligible to participate, you will be randomized to one of three skills training programs. For research purposes, this decision must be made randomly, which means that the chance of you being assigned to each condition is 33.33%. In other words, you will have an equal chance of being assigned to each of the three skills training programs.

  • This study involves multiple components. Below, we provide a summary of each component.

First, you will complete a pre-screening questionnaire to express your interest in the study and determine your initial eligibility to complete a screening visit.

If you are tentatively eligible based on the pre-screening questionnaire, we will invite you to complete an online screening visit, which will take approximately 1 hour. During this visit, a trained member of our research team will ask you more questions about your physical and mental health to determine whether you are eligible for the full study.

If you are eligible, we will invite you for a 3-hour in-person study visit, which will begin with signing informed consent for the full study. You will then complete online questionnaires and computer tasks while we measure your brain and body activity (using non-invasive sensors).

In the 3 days following your in-person study visit, you will complete periodic text-based surveys so we can better understand your thoughts and emotions in everyday life.

After completing 3 days of text-based surveys, you will be ready to start your 6-week online skills training! A skills training coach, who you will meet with each week on the phone for 10-15 minutes, will be able to answer any questions you have and help you get the most out of the program.

Following the skills training program, you will complete another 3 days of text-based surveys and come in for a final in-person study visit. Finally, we will ask you to complete an online follow-up survey.
